PROFILE

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Dorethea attended Central State University, a Historically Black College & University (HBCU) in Wilberforce, Ohio, where she earned both her Bachelor's degree and a Master’s in Business Administration with a focus in Management and Creativity. While in Ohio, she founded Together We’ll Stand, Inc., a nonprofit organization offering recreational programs, and served as its Executive Director for 12 years.

While working as a Civil Servant for the United States Air Force, she was promoted and relocated to San Antonio, Texas. There, she established SA Youth Programs Community Events, LLC, launching PEARLfect Dancers as its official dance studio. Although the Ohio organization initially included broader recreation services, Dorethea chose to focus exclusively on dance—her lifelong passion.

With over 20 years of dance experience, including four years at the collegiate level, Dorethea is technically trained in contemporary, liturgical, and jazz. Still, thanks to the enthusiastic dance moms at PEARLfect Dancers, she remains a favorite hip hop instructor—whether she planned to or not!

Her background in business management has shaped her leadership style, but what matters most to Dorethea is building a strong, creative team with genuine hearts—not just for dance, but for inspiring dancers and creating uplifting experiences for every family. While management is her area of expertise, she firmly believes that authenticity and compassion will always supersede academic credentials.

FUN FACTS

When did you start dancing, and why?

I began dancing in sixth grade in Detroit, Michigan, starting in my church. In high school, I was a majorette, which deepened my love for dance. I later received both a dance and academic scholarship to Central State University, a Historically Black College & University (HBCU) in Ohio.

What inspires you to be a dance instructor?

I’m inspired by the growth and development I see in my students. Watching their confidence shine when they win or place at competitions—and the pride they feel just wearing their dance attire—brings me so much joy.

Why did you choose PEARLfect Dancers?

I created PEARLfect Dancers because owning a dance studio was my childhood dream. I never imagined pursuing any other goal—it’s always been my passion and purpose.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After high school, I attended Central State University in Ohio—an HBCU—where I earned a dance scholarship.

What do you do for fun?

Honestly, I love to work! And I truly enjoy talking and connecting with others.
